Taken this morning from the parking lot at work

So the day dawns on my first in-the-trenches battle.

I'm pretty darn nervous because they can tell you exactly what's going to happen, but you still don't know. You don't know what your experience is going to be like. Will I have any adverse reactions to any of the drugs? Will my port work properly? How bad are the sensations during the pushes? Will my veins burn? Will I have hot flashes, heart palpitations, cramping, nausea, a horrible taste in my mouth? Ahhhhhh! >.<

Okay, I'm trying to stay positive and upbeat, but I have been doing that pretty well through this process so far and I think I'm entitled to a little fear and trepidation right now! This is it. This is THE battle. Everything that has come before has just been in preparation for this war. My cancer will live or die based on what happens today and the subsequent chemo sessions.

I have done everything I can to get ready. I have all the stuff the doctors recommended I get, I have my prescriptions, I have my food, I have my books, I have my laptop ready with a brand new bitchin' RPG game (Dragon Age: Origins) and I have "Project Runway" that I recorded last night on DVD. (Thank goodness I can bring my laptop to chemo!)

I came in early to work this morning so I can at least get half a day in before I go. We get 60 hours a year for personal time off and those hours have been slipping through my fingers like water. I now have about 11 hours left. That, plus vacation time, would do me through the end of the year IF my employer hadn't once again decided to make us take two weeks off (unpaid) at Christmas. *sigh* Oh well. I'll worry about finances when there's something to worry about. I'm okay right now. Right now I gotta concentrate on winning this battle!

Added the 'oni' and scales and worked out some issues I was overlooking... debating on adding more oni or ghosts.. plan on doing a sort of cloudy background to look like tattoo.. I think the oni on the right will have fire.. and one will be red and the other blue... (I love these Japanese 'ogres' they look so cool).

Oh, the smoke from the pipe she is smoking will be turning into ghastly figures (Its bad for you!!! No Smoky!)

Waiting on Ken to get home so we can have some Chili Cheese Dogs nomnomnom <3

Remember, remember...

Today is the 5th of November, and for those in the UK (and for our household here in the States) it is Guy Fawkes Day, or "Bonfire Night". It is also the anniversary of my Mother's death. As you can imagine, that means this day is a mix of happy and sad. Happy memories of spending Bonfire Nights with family in the UK, and sad memories of losing my Mother.

However, this is also an opportunity to remember the happy times while my Mother was still alive. The silly things, the infuriating things, and such memories that come with a lifetime of someone in your life who raised you, taught you, whom you depended upon, and who depended upon you. I've recently been reading a book called "The Meme Machine", and it occurred to me that I have acquired a few Mom Memes. Mainly phrases that she used that have now become a part of our vocabulary, because of their amusing nature (sometimes intended, sometimes unintended). There are many, but here are a few of our favourites:

"Helleuwwww" - this is a bit of an exaggeration. Mom, being a southerner, had a bit of a southern drawl, and in particular, this seemed to have really come out in the form of a drawn out 'Hello' when answering the phone. My husband first mentioned it, as it was particularly noticeable to him, having come from England and having a 'different' dialect himself.

"Whadjaget?" - This phrase accompanied the arrival of mail for me...especially if it was a package. Graham once suggested sending me a "naughty" gift in the mail - I begged him not to, or to at least send it by way of a friend so I wouldn't have to do the show and tell. This phrase has haunted me since childhood - any time I was the recipient of a gift, whether Mom knew what it was or not, I was confronted with "whadjaget?" On Christmas mornings, as I was crawling under the tree to see what Father Christmas had left, I was serenaded with "whadjaget?" When it was time to look in the stocking (which, no matter how many times I told Santa that I didn't like walnuts ALWAYS contained a handful of unshelled walnuts), its being handed to me was accompanied by "whadjaget?"

"Floor it!" and "Goooooooo!" - Whenever Mom was a passenger in the car, and the light changed, one of those two phrases inevitably passed her lips. Less frequently, but no less passionately, "blow 'em off the road" was uttered if we found ourselves driving behind someone moving slower than Mom thought they should be.

Those are our favourites, and we say them to each other often when the situation permits, in fond remembrance of my Mother. So, although she's in my thoughts especially today, she always comes to mind when an occasion arises to use one of her 'Nancyisms'.

Tonight, we shall pour a glass of wine and say a toast to her in remembrance. We haven't any fireworks for celebrating Bonfire Night, but maybe we'll pop off a few of our favourite "Nancyisms" and allow them to spark the memories.

Just submitted my resume to hopefully acquire a one time job to do a book cover... My resume keeps getting longer and longer!

I forgot to post this the other day--

I finally (minus the scales) got my dragon inked! I found this awesome old image of a dragon drawn in a chinese style, and I variated my dragon to reflect the work I saw. I think the style works well, even though the pinup is of Japanese influence.

I'm going to add the demons and ghosts today.. should be much fun!

current mood: drained

Last night I finished up all my art for Furfest and Johnnie matted everything for me. I also started packing for the show that we go and set up for this evening. Then we get to come home and look at ornaments until we are too tired and go to sleep.

Tomorrow is the start of Faeriecon. We open at one to the public and close at 6pm. Johnnie will not be there all day as he has some important customers at work he is taking care of. My father in law (Mr. Evans to you) will be there for the day helping out.

So here is the skinny on Faeriecon:

Faeriecon will take place at the Hunt Valley Marriot the address is:

245 Shawan Road
Hunt Valley, MD 21031

These are MY hours for vending

Friday November 6: 1-6 pm
Saturday November 7: 10 am-6pm
Sunday November 8: 10am-5pm

I have 2 public signings at the Tate and Company Booth, they last about 30 min

Saturday 1pm
Sunday 1:30pm

My booth number is C34

I am in the back left hand corner of the room facing the wall. Look for red hair, twinkling lights and a very purple booth.

Ornaments will be in stock at the show as well as prints, greeting cards, holiday cards, perfume oils, candles, figurines and other gift items.

I think that is it. Wish me luck and see you there!!

Business as Usual

Sent out a bunch of messages to my various mailing list.

I find it ironic that I tried some Facebook advertising to the tune of $64 - and get one $17 sale that I haven't received a money order for yet. On the other hand, a few free emails, and I've made way, WAY more than the entire Facebook campaign netted me. Not recommending Facebook advertising.

Email is throwing an odd error message at me. Hmm...

Art and Authoring

I noodled around last night, but didn't make any real progress. I've decided to switch up my art goals a bit - rather than finishing ALL three CoL covers, I want to finish just one - and one steampunk piece for the coloring book.

Home and Health

Keep hauling myself around by my bootstraps. Still loving my car and my various pretty house colors.

Planning

Pack up for an overnight to the hotsprings tomorrow. Hope the husband makes it home - they're expecting a winter storm!

Getting ready for chemo

Today I had my chemo education class at the cancer center. The nurse went over all the basics, as well as specifics regarding my actual chemo cocktail (ABVD). There's a lot of stuff you have to keep in mind and some things you can't do. I had to cancel my dental cleaning in December and I can't floss any more because they don't want your mouth to bleed. In the same vein, they don't want you to shave in case you nick yourself. You can't get manicures and pedicures and if you do your own nails, you can't cut your cuticles. If you garden or wash dishes, you have to wear gloves. Basically you just have to be super careful not to cut yourself or expose yourself to possible infections.

On the food front, I'm supposed to eat six small meals a day and of course drink as much water as possible to flush out the chemicals. If I get nausea, I've been prescribed a couple different medications...compazine and ativan.

On the day of chemo itself, I'm supposed to eat beforehand and I can bring snacks if I want, as long as they don't have a strong odor. My session should last about four hours. For entertainment, the chemo lounge has TVs, and I can bring my laptop. They have internet access so depending on how I feel I may be able to blog during treatment. We'll see!

They suggest not eating your favorite foods during chemo so as not to tie an unpleasant or nauseous experience to it and maybe ruining your love of that food, so tomorrow night is pizza night one last time! (At least for a while...)

Hey! Well, I'm restarting up this journal here. I really do love livejournal, one of my guilty pleasures. ;) Even though I seem to try to break away and start journaling elsewhere I always seem to end up here again. And I'm adding a bit of coding to my website to pull my most recent entires to my website so I need something here for it to grab for posting and see if its working or not.

And while I've only had one cup of coffee (my usual limit), I'm feeling strangely over-caffeinated and shaky today.   Bizarre.   Just plain Folgers too, so I'm not sure what is up with that.

Back to the web coding....

Edited to add:
Figured out the caffeine problem.  It looks like I put in two scoops instead of one during my morning haze.  oops!

I finished Lolly Wolf last night while Johnnie so kindly went through all of the Witching Hour ornaments. We are half way there at least.

Mixed Media going to Midwest Furfest. I miscalculated to the last piece will be a little 5x7 again and I haven't decided what kind of animal it will be. I have an appointment and errands to run this morning so I will decide then and come home and paint it. Everything needs to be matted this evening because it all has to ship out tomorrow. I have a wholesale order to pull together when I get home too. Then we have 6 crates of figurines and I haven't even started to pack up for the show. Midwest Furfest did throw a wrench into my initial plans but at least I got to create some cute art for it.

All orders placed by 9pm this evening will ship out tomorrow. All others will have to wait until after Faeriecon.

Well I need to get, have a great day everyone.

Selling on Ebay

Hi all

I am selling this lovely Autumn Goddess painting on Ebay for your enjoyment.
The Goddess of Autumn is here! And she is looking for a home. She is a princess and deserves her thrown. Will you be the one to provide for her?

EBAY AUCTION

Photobucket

You are bidding on a STUNNING hand signed, fantasy painting by Fantasy Artist Lindy van den Bosch. This is an ORIGINAL, and NOT a reproduction!!
The original painting looks much better in person and there are many details that can not be picked up on this low resolution photograph. It is a must see in real life.

The painting is A3 or 14x16 inches big and painted on professional watercolour paper of 220 grams.
The main medium used is water colour with colour pencils and acrylics for the high lights.
The painting is unframed but would look beautiful in a simple frame or a lovely rococo style frame.
